| Fern
started mumbling on the couch where she’d fallen asleep in dozens of
different languages; ancient Japanese, Proto-Slavic,
Proto-Indo-European, and many other tongues long forgotten by anyone
alive. At first the words were barely audible even in the otherwise
perfectly quiet house, so Perla barely stirred in the chair next to her
sister. Than Fern’s whispers turned to shrieks and screams as she
ranted and argued in dozens of different languages with the dozens of
beings that had possessed her. Startled from the chair Perla ran to her
sister's side and their parents came running down the stairs, but
nothing they could do could wake Fern up.
