A rat with magical powers. In one Japanese fairy tale rats were
depicted as man eaters who haunt old buildings. In one of the more
famous fairy tales about rats in Japan a villages old temple is haunted
by some unknown monster. Needing a place to stay a monk stays there and
discovers that the temple is really being haunted by rats who use magic
to appear as monsters and eat those who enter the temple. He however
brings in a cat to battle the rats. The battle ends with both the cat
and the rats dying so he erects a small shrine to the brave cat.
